Today’s prank is near and dear to me. It’s a prank I tried to get my ex coworkers to do for every new hire, but I was unable to convince enough of them to pull it off. As such, please try to do this with your next new employee and please let me know how it goes.

Requirements:

• Time (low) - the prank takes only as long as it takes you to say “and begin”.
• Cost (none) - zero cost whatsoever.
• Risk (low) - little to no risk on this one.

Steps:

1. When a new employee is scheduled to start work, gather as many people in your department to do the prank as possible. Tell them all to not to begin working each morning until you say “and begin”.
2. When the new hire comes to work don’t talk to them until the “and begin” happens. If they persist just tell them to wait.
3. Continue to do this each morning for awhile. The new hire should start doing it as well. Then, after a predetermined amount of time, have everybody stop waiting for the “and begin”.

Result:

By having everybody act weird in the mornings waiting for the “and begin” signal, you should thoroughly freak out the new employee. They should think everybody is weird but will probably go along with it since they are new.

When everybody then stops waiting for “and begin”, the new employee will definitely be confused. It should be a nice new hire ritual to perform on every new employee to welcome them to the new company.
