Prank 6: Flip-a-Roo

This here prank is a much easier and safer prank than the last few. No harm should come of anything at all and nobody should be disturbed (besides your victim of course). With this prank you’re going to flip all of your coworkers “things” around to the opposite side of their work area.

Requirements:

  • Time (low) - depends on how much stuff your coworker has on his or her desk, should easily be less than an hour even with a lot of stuff to move around.
  • Cost (none) - none.
  • Risk (low) - the only risk is that you might get your coworker pissed off if he or she really must have things a certain way at their desk.

Steps:

  1. Determine your “middle” line. Basically, this is what you will use to judge what goes where. Using the monitor is generally a great point of reference since you can just leave the monitor as is, and swap everything on the sides.
  2. Somehow mark or draw out where everything started and where everything will end up. You are going to be taking everything on the left of your middle line and moving it to the right side and vice versa so somehow drawing where everything will end up usually works out better than just trying to remember.
  3. Swap everything to be on the opposite sides of the middle line. You want things to be the same distance from the middle line as they were before, just on the opposite side. For instance, if the mouse is exactly a foot to the right of the middle line, move it a foot left of the middle line, keeping the depth of it the same.
  4. The key is in the details. Move EVERYTHING to the opposite sides. This includes all papers, the mouse, anything on the walls, loose change… EVERYTHING. And try to move it to the exact position on the opposite side. If you do it sloppy and just move everything to the opposite sides without putting things close to where the should go, it won’t look nearly as good.

Result:

The work area should look exactly how it did before, but with everything switched to the opposite sides. You’re right handed coworker will now have to be left handed, at least until they move everything back. The gag is very simple and not overly flashy, but it really is a pretty fun thing to watch your coworker see for the first time. Sometimes they won’t quite figure out exactly what you did for awhile, just that everything is “messed up”.

A more subtle variation of this prank is to take everything and moving it forward or backward a few inches. Your victim will probably not notice what is wrong, just that it doesn’t “feel” right.
